OpenAI ChatGPT Launch
Launch OpenAI ChatGPT EDU to active faculty, staff and students as part of a California State University (CSU) systemwide initiative that runs through July 2026.
Overview
Academic Technology (AT) and Information Technology Services (ITS) will roll out OpenAI ChatGPT EDU to university faculty, staff and students as part of a California State University (CSU) systemwide initiative.
OpenAI ChatGPT EDU is an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot technology that can process natural human language and generate a response. This premium version of ChatGPT is built for universities to responsibly deploy AI to active students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Through the CSU licensing agreement, it will include enterprise-level security and data protection not provided to those with individual or commercially available licenses.
The project will make the OpenAI ChatGPT EDU platform available to SF State users through a collaborative effort between Academic Technology (AT) and Information Technology Services (ITS). The initiative will begin under an existing 18-month contract with OpenAI that started in 2025 and runs through July 2026. This project will focus on the technical enablement, provisioning, and set-up necessary for the successful deployment and use of ChatGPT EDU on the campus. The goal is to make ChatGPT EDU accessible to faculty, staff and students during the contract period enabling usage alongside a broader campus AI program.
